Hummingbird Sabbath

By Chelsea Barnwell

Quiver, shimmer, hum, and hover,

Flower met by flower lover,

Joyous movement, constant cadence,

Bob and weave, a radiant dance.

Green jewel lands on red bloom lightly.

Look! She folds her wings, clothed brightly.

Feathers labor once had concealed,

Now at rest, their beauty revealed.

Grace in ceasing as in gath’ring,

Joy in rest of God’s own off’ring,

In this quiet pause, breath-holding,

Dwells deep trust ‘neath wings soft folding.
