Sacrifice

By Spencer Barnhill

To live to die, the virtuous way

despite what yet I know;

though growth in baggage near my end

is absurd to Cicero.

To be or not to be, the quest

for what has yet to show:

the answers to my mind and heart

Sir Hamlet died to know.

Today thus I will reconcile

with life, with death, with pain;

amidst the search for truth in all

I’ll sacrifice my name.

Reduction paired with humble heart

and faithful mind above,

will lead the sullied soul to peace

and arms of endless love.
